OCTOBER 2024 SATURDAY AFTERNOON SESSION THOUGHTS

After a quick and filling lunch, time for Round TWO!

Um…that choir!   Those kids brought it hard!

D. Todd Christofferson came out swinging with a masterful talk on overcoming weapons of rebellion. Always love me a good WW Phelps reference!  I love his story of repentance and the forgiveness and mercy from Joseph Smith.  Not sure if Frank Sinatra’s name was already in the Gospel Library, but there you go!  “When it comes to matters of salvation and eternal life, our theme song ought to be, ‘I Did it God’s Way,’ because truly there is no other way.” Tempted to use AI to recreate a new song called “I did it God’s way!” In Ole Blue Eyes’ voice.  Let us all bury our weapons of rebellion!

We had an opportunity to visit an Alaska salt company on our cruise earlier this summer - it was fascinating to see the process.  And yep, salt is really two elements tied together. We cannot be salt without being connected and committed to Jesus Christ, which then connects to others.  “Just as salt in its purest form has the power to enhance and preserve, so too does our faith in Jesus Christ when it is nourished and protected by our dedication to Christlike service and love.”  Thanks Elder Teixeira!

Man, I’ve learned more about dynamite and salt today than I ever thought I would.

Wooooowwwwww! Kids Choir! 🥲 GET IT!  A very dynamic singing of “Gethsemane”. The fight was won by Jesus!

Elder Juan Pablo Villar’s comparing his diving experience being tossed twice in the malicious waves to the way we deal with temptation and the adversary.  His brother saved the day!  Don't forget who has power over the waves and all things - Jesus Christ, and He has the power to help us out of every miserable condition or adverse situation.

My wife and I realized that we’ve been members of the Church longer than Elder Kearon!  “Welcome to the church of joy! … We can — and should — be the most joyful people on earth.”  That sounded even more joyful in Elder Kearon’s voice.  His definition of “Joyful Reverence” was awesome as he beautifully distinguished between attending and worshipping, especially in the sacrament meeting experience.  Sometimes we need to tell our faces and bodies that we’re a people of joy!

Anyone notice the overwhelming message of JOY so far?

Fun fact - “Redeemer of Israel” (sung by the choir) was penned by the aforementioned W. W. Phelps!

“Jesus Christ has long called His faithful followers His friends. … The Savior uses the term ‘friend’ to define a sacred and cherished relationship.”  I thought Elder David L. Buckner’s analogy was perfectly stated.  Jesus will never “friend-zone” us.  We are more than "just friends" to Christ.  “VIsitor’s Welcome”

This is one of the few times I get on “X” (formerly known as Twitter) and was funny to see all the comments after Elder Buckner referred to it.

It is crucial that we have the Holy Ghost as a constant companion in our lives. Do not do anything that would cause the Spirit to remove from your presence.Elder  D. Martin Goury did so great even with that dang fly buzzing around! 🪰

"We can decide to serve as a humble gust of wind in the Lord's hands.”  How many faithful brothers and sisters sit forgotten among us in sacrament meeting?  Look for them, then reach out to them and remind them that they're loved.  You are never forgotten.  I swear I’ve heard the sunglasses story from Elder Cavalcante somewhere before!  The phrase “I wear my sunglasses at church” was all over the socials…😎

That fly is resilient!

Elder Soares is always a home run hitter. I have so much respect for him! Love the story about the merchants selling everything for that priceless pearl. Individualism has a place, but when it becomes our sole focus it leads us away from God, and joy, and creates stumbling blocks in our lives. We don't need "our truth" we need "God's truth"  Frank Sinatra must be rolling in his grave with two references to the flawed idea of “my way” as the bookends of this session.  "What works for Thee, works for me"

Great session!  More compelling proof that accents make every talk better!

A sign saying VISITORS WELCOME is not enough…unless it’s on a pair of Foyer Florals B.O.M.Socks…

Stay salty, my friends!  See you later tonight!
