What is good, my friends?
Out on my 1000 Mile Walk with God today.
And apparently, we have officially hit 750 miles.
Which means we are three-fourths of the way there. Or, as all my math teachers probably hoped I would say: 75%.
Look at us. Fractions. Percentages. Spiritual growth. Comfortable socks.
¾ of the way there, so I guess we’re really doing this, right? 😄
Anyway, I woke up this morning with absolutely no idea what I was going to share.
Like, nothing.
And honestly, that happens a lot. More than I’d like.
Sometimes I’ll read something in the scriptures, or a thought will come to my mind, or something from life will stand out.
But other mornings, I just think:
“Yeah, I’ve got nothing.”
So I just start walking. That’s usually the best thing to do.
I’m a sharer by nature. On my social media profile, I have a bunch of F words listed — all good ones, don’t worry.
Faith. Family. Food. Funny. Fashion. Flourishing. Future.
There’s a few more. Basically, it’s all the good things that fill my life. And I like sharing about those things.
But today, I didn’t know what the thought was going to be. So I started walking, put on a podcast with a couple friends talking about gospel things, and just kept moving.
Then, faintly in the background, I heard:
“On your left.”
A couple people on electric bikes were coming up behind me and zoomed right past.
And I was grateful they said something, because if I hadn’t known they were there, it would have thrown me off my groove a little bit.
Which, if I may say so, is a very delicate and majestic walking groove. 😄
But because they gave me that little warning, I knew they were there. I could make room, stay steady, and not miss a beat.
And almost immediately, I thought:
That’s one way God works in our lives.
Sometimes He just quietly lets us know:
“On your left. I’m here. Pay attention. You’re not alone. I’ve got you.” 🎙️
— the thought that caught up with me mid-stride
Sometimes it’s a warning.
Sometimes it’s a gentle prompting.
Sometimes it’s just a reminder that He is near.
Staying Spiritually Aware
Most of the choices in my life are not dramatic battles between obvious good and obvious evil.
It’s usually not: “Should I go knock off a liquor store or help an elderly woman cross the street?” That is not my usual decision tree. 😄
Most of life is filled with good things, hard things, responsibilities, relationships, worries, work, family, and a dozen other things that can keep our minds busy.
And sometimes even good things can distract us.
I mean, I was listening to a gospel podcast, and even then, I almost missed what was happening around me.
So I think the invitation is to stay spiritually aware.
Not anxious or paranoid. Just aware.
Aware enough to notice when God is trying to get our attention.
Aware enough to feel a prompting.
Aware enough to hear Him say:
“I’m here. I’ve got you. Keep walking.”
On Your Left
So my little thought from today’s walk is this:
Don’t get so distracted — even by good things — that you miss God’s quiet reminders.
He may not always shout.
Sometimes He just says:
“On your left.”
Either way, God is absolutely mindful of you.
So stay close enough to hear Him.
Thanks for being part of this little B.O.M.Socks community. I’m grateful we get to walk through faith, family, humor, scripture, quiet promptings, and real life together.
Godspeed!
