From Florence, Italy...to your feet!
At the moment - I'm actually sitting in Barcelona, Spain in the airport waiting for a flight back to the states. Our travel time is 22 hours today. I'll explain...
We've been on a graduation trip for one of our twin sons—a 10-day European cruise filled with pasta from Rome, pizza in Napoli, pastries in France, and “Wow, this place is WAY older than America” moments.
Our other twin? Not much of a traveler, but he is a foodie, so we’re making it up to him with a local burger tour. (Pray for my cholesterol levels.)
One of the biggest highlights for me was seeing some of the most breathtaking religious art in the world. Standing inside the Sistine Chapel and seeing Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” in person… let’s just say goosebumps were involved. The detail, the beauty, the reminder of God’s nearness that we can reach out to—it was incredible.
But another moment that stood out was seeing Michelangelo’s David in Florence, Italy. This thing is massive—over 16 feet tall. The craftsmanship is stunning. His confident stance, the detail in every muscle—it’s easy to see why it’s considered one of the greatest works of art in history.
But here’s the thing: the real David wasn’t impressive because of his height (he was likely WAY under 6 feet tall, not 16). His strength came from something far greater - one of my favorite Bible verses:
“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” – Psalm 118:6
That’s the real power David carried into battle—not chiseled marble muscles, but unshakable faith.
As 9 foot 9 inch Goliath rumbled toward David, in 1 Samuel 17 it reads…
“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”
It’s the same faith we can have when we face the “giants” in our lives. Whether it’s a difficult job situation, a challenging relationship, or even just the mountain of laundry that somehow regenerates daily (especially after a 10-day cruise 😅)—God is on your side.
Our gospel-themed socks (including our wildly popular David and Goliath Bible-themed socks) may not make you 16 feet tall, but they will give you a bold reminder every time you put them on: you don’t have to be the biggest to be the strongest.
Wear them, walk in faith, and watch your giants fall.
