In the Midst of Persecution and Wickedness
Yesterday was heavy. Between the heartbreaking news of Charlie Kirk’s passing and the weight of remembering 9/11, my heart has felt pulled in a thousand directions.
And scrolling through social media? Yikes—yeah, it didn’t help much.
But in my scripture study, I came across Doctrine and Covenants 99:1–2. The Lord called John Murdock (cool dude, btw) to proclaim the gospel “in the midst of persecution and wickedness.” And yet, He promised John power as he should “declare my word in the demonstration of my Holy Spirit.”
What a fantastic reminder!
Political rhetoric and arguments aren’t going to heal the world. They never have. But the Spirit can. He can lift, heal, and comfort in ways nothing else can.
And unlike us—He’s perfect at it.
That’s part of why we do what we do at B.O.M.Socks. Our mission has always been about more than just socks—it’s about sharing goodness, even in the midst of darkness, persecution, and confusion.
A simple sock design, a verse, a daily reminder on your feet—it’s one more way to “declare His word” and invite the Spirit and even help us smile a little more into our everyday life.
And this ties beautifully into this whole week’s Come, Follow Me study: we’re reminded again and again that disciples of Christ (then and now) are not spared from opposition. But we’re also promised that the Spirit can magnify our voices and bring peace in ways greater than our own strength.
In times like these—tragic, heavy, and sometimes overwhelming—let’s not add to the noise. Let’s give the Holy Spirit space to "demonstrate" what He does best: comfort, lift, and remind us of Christ’s love.
This week, look for one simple way you can demonstrate the Spirit in your life—whether that’s sharing a kind word, choosing peace instead of arguing, or quietly lifting someone who’s struggling.
Small acts, when led by the Spirit, can have eternal impact.
