OCTOBER 2024 SATURDAY EVENING SESSION THOUGHTS
Ready for another Saturday night session - let’s GO!
“We are NOW the Lord’s missionaries!” Love the adjustment sung by missionaries - having a missionary out there while watching this hits differently. We sung “I Will Walk With Jesus” in Seminary yesterday - beautiful song!
I’m generally not a huge Dad Jokes fan but I would totally listen to an entire ‘Dad Joke” talk by AI Gerrit W. Gong! Religious believers are, on average, happier, healthier, and more fulfilled than others…and are doing their best to take time for holiness. “To walk with the Lord, we must become holy, for He is holy; and, to help us become holy, the Lord invites us to walk with Him.” Loved his sweet reminiscing of his mother…and I wholeheartedly agree with her ice cream answer! “She’s not gone, just not here now.” What a holy outlook!
Sister Kristin M. Yee always brings it! And WOW - her artwork is on point! When thinking she had lost her artwork, her mother wisely counseled, “You won’t get back what you have, but do the very best you can with what you have got.” He can heal the waste places of your soul. You are not beneath the Master's reach. Sister Yes, thank you! Can’t wait to study her talk when it comes out.
Oh, and her beautiful painting is called “And I Partook”
I always love hearing Elder Kyle S.McKay’s testimony - it is bold and powerful. He is also the Church Historian and Recorder, and I love what he has done to help move a love of Church History to the world. On that spring day of 1820, forces for good and evil were interested in Joseph Smith. Very interested and they all showed up. “Joseph Smith's experience in the Sacred Grove proves that God will answer the earnest prayers of teenagers.” You better believe that I’m bringing that one to the seminary classroom!
Man, was Elder Jorge M. Alvarado excited to get up there and testify! I don’t think the cameramen were ready for him. I think Elder McKay’s bold witness fired him up even more as he shared his own testimony of Joseph Smith and forgiveness of sin. I’ve always loved the story of the stolen Book of Mormon - it was shared by President James E. Faust many years ago. “Repentance is JOY!” And boy, after his talk - do I beleive it! I’m out of breath just listening to it.
Maybe I should start carrying a small Book of Mormon in my back pocket to help convert thieves.
“JOY” count...I’ve lost track, and it’s only Saturday!
Love David A. Bednar’s “attaboy” to the Conference Center faithful! When Ezra Taft Benson got to Spirit World, pretty sure there was a slow clap from all of the Book of Mormon prophets. He was the prophet when I was a teenager and I remember his passion and counsel regarding the Book of Mormon. That book was not only written for our day, but for our future. Having recently finished the book of Helaman, there are SOOOOO many parallels to our time. “We must be on guard against a pride induced and exaggerated sense of self importance.” Yep, sounds like today.
I think Elder Bednar just testified of EVERY epic Ezra Taft Benson talk in one fell swoop.
I have always loved Joseph Smith…and I love him even more today! Might be my favorite session yet!
My soul is full, my belly is hungry…and those Papa Murphy’s pizzas aren’t going to eat themselves - see you tomorrow!
